OFFENDED

Top of the morning!
Said the Host of the show-
The phone lines are full-
To our first caller…Hello?!!!
I resent what you said sir-
A moment ago-
You offended my Heritage
By your cheap Irish brogue!
Oh! I’m sorry-
I did not intend
To lessen your value-
Apologies, my friend!

The call was soon over,
Let’s go to line one!
Hello there friend Clyde!
You old “son of a gun”!
Old! How dare you!
Anger so me!
If I were 40 years younger
I’d put your over my knee!

This too soon ended
Let’s try now line two-
It’s the famous J.T!
Sir what’s bugging tonight you?
What does that mean?
I do you sir resent!
How dare you defile me
As a damn malcontent!!!

As fast as they started
They both quickly parted
The call was now over
Another caller insulted

He took a deep breath,
And asked God for strength-
“If I’m lying, I’m dieing”
Lord, how much more must I take?

These words overheard
He went to line three-
Hello there Dear Leonard!
Please treat me gently!

Gently my foot!
Why did you just say-
That the Lord was a liar!
Treat you gently?!
No way!!!

They were at it again-
The host defending his ground-
And God always listening-
Had to turn down the sound-

And so then it went-
Every caller who called,
Was somehow, offended,
 disrespected, appalled-

A thousand years later-
As he drove slowly home-
He pondered the show,
And the words of Bob Logue-

I have found that the callers
Are not as kind as days past-
Less open, Less caring,
Time to go at long last-

Stoic, he drove,
The house now in sight-
Where Love, Patient, Waiting
Makes Everything right-
