"Pumped"

I stand at the pump
As I do every week –
My thoughts turn to words
My tongue dare not speak –
Higher and Higher,
The prices do creep –
Long gone the days
Of Petroleum cheap –
Irritation, for months –
Has rode by my side –
Today, anger, his Cousin,
Came along for the ride –
I had no idea
He was riding with me –
Until I was shocked,
By the B.P. Marquee

Forty bucks later –
I walked in to pay,
As anger did dare me,
To give him away –
I stood in the line
And considered the thought –
The Devil said “Do it!”
My Conscious said “Not!”
“A piece of somebody –
would help foot the bill” –
As the Devil beguiled me,
My Ego to fill
“Bring your burdens to Me”
Came a soft, Loving voice –
My Conscience, unfailing,
Once again, the right Choice –
