See, Gary, remember when I wrote and said that God had greater things
for you??
Am so very happy for you and your family that He answered prayer and has
opened up this door for you. Congratulations I understand fully your
position on not being able to put much time into your web sight etc. But
how about just letting us know every now and then how your doing and
what's happening in your life?? Am glad the Lord led you in a way that
can glorify Him.Much love in Christ,
Ruth
Hi Gary,
I was just getting ready to go to bed and you and the after midnight
family came to mind. So, I thought I'd jump on your website to see how
you were doing and was excited to see the news with your new chapter at
WORD and just wanted to wish you Congrats!
For about the past year or
so while I'm driving, if I'm not listening to my own music, WORD's
become the only station I feel like listening to, something positive and
effective and programming that keeps me focused. So needless to say,
this is a blessing and I'm happy for you and happy for both the
stations. Sounds like a great match.
Well, enjoy your second week on the job and hope you're getting off to a
good start.
Take Care Gary,
Dan
Hello Gary -
I have been out of town for the past two weeks and just saw the news of
your taking the position at WORD - FM -
This is WONDERFUL news - I am so excited for you... It nice to know
you'll still be in the area - and it's great to see the next steps God
is giving you to take. It's so hard to go through what you've had to
face - (I am speaking from experience) and it is reassuring when you
have a new direction to go with your life... It's the waiting that is
hard. I wish you all the best with this new road... I love WORD-FM
particularly on the week ends for the music. Maybe we can get some of
that during the week...?
I also love Bill Pearce at 10:30 nightly... I look forward to
watching the changes at WORD as well.
God Bless you...
Thanks for sharing the news...
Barb
Hi Gary, I heard all the great news and I am happy. Your new stations
should be very happy. I always knew you were going to land somewhere (
no pun intended ) Speaking of landings and take-offs, I still take care
of all my birds. I have 5 deer right now, 2 of them are fawns. I heard
the picnic was great, too. Pat told me yall had a great time. Wished I
lived closer, maybe I'd be there. Take care and God bless you and yours.

Congratulations on your new job I know you will be a real success at it.
You have so much talent it would have been a shame if you did not use
it. God always takes care of everyone and as long as you keep your faith
something good always comes. GOD BLESS and many happy years ahead in
your new job
Roberta
Dear Gary,
Just a quick note: Congratulations on the new job! I'm sure the new
stations will realize, in short order, that you are the perfect person
to help chart their future course.
I just want to let you know that you have been in my thoughts and
prayers ever since management made the HUGE mistake at KDKA- and I am
right now so thrilled to share in this time of excitement. By the way, I
have read your updates on the website every Sunday night, without fail.
Please keep us all posted!
Hope your family is all well!
Take Care...and best of luck, always,

BEST WISHES TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, GARY.....
How wonderful to hear something good happening to someone good! I listen
to WORD FM and enjoy the peace---and the peaceful distance it gives us
from the other frantic stations. They couldn't have chosen a better or
more dedicated manager. (Ask for a raise in your salary--you'll get it!)
In reading the other comments here, indeed, it's very comforting to see
the familiar thread of "family, devoted listeners, and a 'Can I be of
any help to anyone' theme" running through the letters. FAMILY. That's
us. And we are so darn lucky to have found After Midnight and now, good
ol' gary@garydickson.com!!!!!
But, yes, we understand you will now have a 'real job' (!).....and won't
be able to spend as much time on this site as you have previously. We'll
miss ya.....though we couldn't be happier for you and your family. God
moves in mysterious ways.
Hope you'll check in once in a while and let us know how things are
going. And...here's hoping this special and very unique meeting place
will continue for a bit longer.
Be sure to take with you, on your first day, all of our prayers and good
wishes---and you'll breeze right through it.
God Bless you and your family,
God Bless all,
Janice
Hi Gary,
I just looked at your website and discovered that you have been offered
and have accepted a new position at WPIT/WORD. That is wonderful! I'm
very happy for you and your family, of course. The only problem that I
have at all with it is that you won't be on the air with talk. That's
OK, though, because I feel that you are "radio".
I do want to wish you the best and congratulations on the new job.
Take care, and God Bless You,
Marilyn (from Volant)
Howdy GARY!
WELL I WAS A STEADY LISTENER [never called however]. The
KDKA listeners are all, or mostly that is older folks. And we all know
older folks get set in their ways...when a radio host is on KDKA well,
the folks seem to make them their adopted family member and make anybody
else's stepping into the spot less than fun.
I did think you had some nasty listeners anyway. Some just waited to
jump all over you, so this WORD-FM position is really better suited for
you. I always remembered you are also an Aries. I am March 25th....
Gary...wishing you many years of happiness in your new position.
A fan
Linda
Congratulations on your new position. We have been praying for you
and now our prayers are answered. Isn't it great to see how God works if
we just trust in him to provide.
Hope to see you tomorrow.
Keith & Shirley
Sorry we won't be able to hear you on the air, but we are so very
happy for you and your family. I'm sure there were many, many of your
"night" time friends praying for something good to happen for you.

Hi Gary,
The piece on lighthouses was fantastic! Really first class. I
had to watch it twice! As with any excellent production it stirs the
soul. Mine was no exception.
I was left thinking, "How would the lighthouse feel? This may have been
the reply...

I've been quiet too long, The time is now right-
To express how I'm feeling, Please, let me shed now, some light.
I've stood here as long as this country is old,
I've endured deep depression, Drought, famine, and cold.
Grounded in stone, I've been undaunted by years.
I've caused grown men to smile, I've reduced them to tears-
I've stood up to hurricanes, pirates and unruly sailors,
I may have then blinked, yet I never did waiver.
I've been looked up to by kings, Looked down on by saints-
I've been a friend to ship captains, landlubbers first mates-
I've been hope in the night, I've been a herald to dreams.
I've been a journey commenced, To religious oppressed.
But now, things are different, A new tide has come in-

Gary,
This new program is so good. I used to think you should have been a
preacher but with your new endeavor what a wonderful opportunity to show
your love of God and people. I admire you Gary; how you took up the
challenge of the listeners. I've encouraged all my e-mail Buddies to
listen to you.
One of your remarks this time was about forgiving but not
forgetting....when I was small. I did something I shouldn't have..
don't remember what... but I asked my Grandmother to forgive me and she
said "Sissy" that's what she always called me, I'll forgive you but I'll
never forget it"
I have always remembered that. Years later I asked her what I had
done and she couldn't remember. LOL
Was so good to hear Zele Bob. He is so funny. Also Daryl. Keep up the
good work.
Ruth
Dear Gary,
How sir, are you doing? Your new website looks swell.
How is Shea? And the kids? I hope they are well.
As for me? Well, I'm doing just fine-
I hope you don't mind this letter in rhyme.
Who would-a thunk it? We had not a clue-
What the "radio gurus' were planning to do.
I could not believe your website that day,
"I am no longer working for KDKA".
You know, it made me quite angry,
I, some curse words let fly-
I prayed with dear Lorna...wiped a tear from my eye.
And now, six months later, I write again you.
To support this endeavor God's called you to.
If you, "for only a season", bring a smile to one face-
The world will be brighter, and a slight better place.
If you make a Dad think, of his calling undone-
He may drop a commitment, and lift up his son.
If a bigot, so blinded by anger and strife-
Could be moved to forgiveness, it could alter his life.
If a man of no faith, just one scripture, might read-
Hope could take root, you, having planted that seed.
Just think of the power of the well-meaning word,
Lost, on deaf ears, priceless when heard.
Just a note to encourage and send you my best-
Keep your eye on the prize, stand firm through the test.
It's my hope that "Deeper Currents" will be a big hit.
I'm sure God's Spirit will guide you, as His timing sees fit.
Have faith in God's guidance, as Paul says you should-
And remember:
What men did for business, God works for good!
Blessings,
James Thomas
Gary,
What an inspirational listening port, not to mention helping us to
remember the value of slowing down and regaining the peace of mind we
all once had long ago. I'm going to try to put into practice the art of
finding that peace in everyday life. Hmmm..following my two year old
grandson around all day will give me a lot of chances to do just that.
Many thanks for all of your hard work. It's a great website and we're
really lucky. Hearing familiar voices-including yours--was wonderful.
God Bless All,
Janice
Hey Gary,
I'm listening to your new show right now and it's great!!
Thanks for putting this up...very good stuff so far. Anyways keep up the
great work. I have to get back to listening!
Tom
Hi Gary,
I listened to Deeper Currents tonight. You did a truly wonderful job. I
especially liked the part about everything being to fast and everyone in
a hurry. I tell that to my children all the time, they need to slow down
and smell the roses. It was good to hear from the 3 people you had on
the show. I was a listener, but never called in. Keep up the good work.
Lorraine
Hi Gary,
It looks like the book, God Stories--Inspiring Encounters
with the Divine, will be well-received by readers, according to the
early reviews. I'm forwarding, in this email, Jen Skiff's letter about
what's going on with the book up to now. She asks if any of us has a
website, if we could post a link to God Stories. I don't but I wondered
if you could put it on yours.
This is so interesting, being involved, even so slightly, in publishing
a book. I once went to a publishing class and did well, but never
finished the book I was writing. Life got in the way! Just like that
song of John Lennon's, "Life is what happens when you're busy making
other plans." Among other things, the steel mill my husband was working
in, closed. But here we are today, well and happy. Life does go on
regardless of what we do or think!
You're website for us is just awesome. Sometimes when I am reading it, I
feel guilty that you are working so hard to make it a success. I hope
you are truly aware of how much it means to all of us who became a
family through you--all due to your genuine caring and insight into
people.
And 'Deeper Currents' sounds so exciting! I'd love to be signed up to
'talk'. What an amazing turn of events that we could hear one another
again....
Thanks for any help you can give in putting out the news about the book,
God Stories. I still can't believe my story was chosen for publication.
The sample stories on
www.godstories.com are intense but mine is just a little story
compared to theirs. And this is all due to your show, After Midnight.
Now that's amazing.
God bless all,
Janice
P.S. If you are still taking song requests (although, how you would
find the time is beyond me) I would love to hear "Beautiful Beautiful
Boy by John Lennon". Thanks!
Following is Jennifer Skiff's letter:
Dear Contributors,
Wow! There's so much to tell you.
This week, the first reviews came in. Here they are:
“God Stories are the stuff of life and living. Reading this book is a
touching and soul penetrating experience."
- Mark Victor Hansen
Co-Creator, #1 New York Times best selling series Chicken Soup for the
Soul
Co-Author, Cracking the Millionaire Code and The One Minute Millionaire
“My eyes filled with tears and my heart lifted as I read GOD STORIES.
Jennifer Skiff has presented us with a wide range of heavenly touches,
everything from quiet hugs to stunning out-of-body experiences, and
readers of all faiths will be moved. As the praise song goes, "Our God
is an awesome God!" Each page of this beautiful book attests to that.”
----Joan Wester Anderson, Author of Where Angels Walk and Angels and
Wonders
I am putting together a gallery of photos for our website. If you aren't
shy, I'd love to include a picture of you. The picture should be of you
and you alone and should be sent in a .jpg file to my webmaster:
jim@godstories.com Please include your name written on the email
in the subject heading and double check that it's spelled correctly.
Do you have a website for yourself or your business? If so, would you
consider linking it to God Stories? The link is:
http://www.Godstories.com Alternatively, if you're on Myspace,
Facebook, or any other social networks, feel free to attach a copy of
the cover of the book to your page.
I'm working diligently now and am following all the advice given to me
by marketers and publicists to make sure this book reaches as big an
audience as possible when it comes out. If you have any questions or
ideas, don't hesitate to send them my way.
Yipeee! How about those reviews?!!

Good Morning Gary,
I still miss you on the radio. I never called in
and because of my hearing I could not understand some of callers but you
were always clear. I enjoy your web site and am so glad you are
enlarging it. Thank you so much for it. It's almost a good as hearing
you. May God richly bless you.
Love, Wilma (formerly Evans City, now Mars, PA)
Gary,
I think that's a great idea for the web site. I recently checked
in for an update and was pleased to read that you are going to continue
with the site. I'm sure your loyal listeners will be happy to hear about
it. Your listeners are still out here and we still miss your show. Every
time I tune KDKA in at night I am reminded of what a mistake it was to
take your show off the air. I will be anxiously waiting for more details
about your ideas for the site.
Bill,
Beaver County
Hello Gary -
When you left KDKA I wrote you a quick note to tell you how sorry I am
that you are not there "in the night" any longer and to wish you well in
whatever direction God takes you.
I am a newcomer though (and sorry to say - too late for the radio show)
to sharing my thoughts with you. I am so thankful for the idea you have
with the website. Perhaps it will pull some others of us as well, who
were regular listeners but never called in to chat.
I loved hearing the names of all those you mentioned on you latest
update - the regular callers who DID care enough to share their hearts
with the rest of us, who for whatever reason, never called. I think of
you often and would love to continue to hear of the happenings in
everyone lives.
One story I'll share quickly with you is of the night my 26 year old
daughter came into my bedroom to have one of our late night heart to
heart talks. I had you on the radio and she found herself listening more
than talking. I don't remember the specific night, but it was one of
those nights when calls were either very funny or very sad...
We found ourselves listening intently,...laughing when it was
appropriate, and sharing the pain of those who were suffering. My
daughter's comment was ..."mom - all of these people really seem to be
friends...or like a family scattered all over...
After that night, she would ask me many times about someone she'd
heard and how things are going with this one or that one....till our
night-time radio show had to end.
My point is - that even at her young age she could see the connection
between people - most of whom would never meet.
Thank you again for being there as an avenue to have people share
from their hearts.
I'd love to be one who will share with others on the website as things
come into play.
Again - I'm sorry I never had the courage to call the radio show, and
only God knows how many nights you ALL helped me through, to face
another morning. Perhaps as we go on I'll be able to share a little of
what I've faced in the past two years...not unlike what you have been
through...
Thank you again - and God Bless. I will be checking the prayer list
regularly as well...as I continue to remember everyone.
Barb
Gary,
Looking through your web sight...my, you’re so brilliant Gary.
Some day the Lord is going to bless you beyond imagination.
Since we can't listen to you and the program that kept us feeling so
close to family, your web site keeps us informed. Guess it's the next
best thing to listening to you.
Poor Raleigh, what an experience for you and him. We have 3 dogs, Shilo,
her son Charlie, and Keda, a Shelti. Shilo loves my hubby and while he
was pulling onions down in the back which is separated by a fence, Shilo
showed up. My hubby thought I'd forgot to shut the fence.
Shilo is a hunter and when she's out she takes off and won't come
back till she's good and ready. The 2nd time she did it we investigated
and found out that she squeezes herself under the fence. Charlie is
always behind her but can't squeeze under because of his size.
Our garden is doing great. Hope to have tomatoes in July. We put them
out the first of May.
Would appreciate your prayers. I've had sever spinal stenosis for over a
year and it's so painful now, I have a really hard time walking. Pain
pills make me sick at my stomach and some I can't take because I have
stage 3 kidney disease so I guess, I'm my worst enemy. God has been good
health wise to me all my life so now guess it's my turn.
Appreciate you and what a blessing you have been to so many people.
Love,
Ruth
Hi Gary!
Thank you so much for all of your patience with the building of this
wanted and needed website. It is so needed in this crazy world. Who
knows what will happen tomorrow...but we know this website will be
there, at least for the present, and we know that a few restful moments
are just a click away.
I have a full day ahead, all planned out with a graduation party for my
cousin, Nikki, and then it's off to my nephew George's 40th birthday
celebration. I have a very big and very close family; my father is one
of 9 children and I have 31 first cousins. With my mother's side of the
family, it adds up to 43. First cousins. I like to remind myself of that
because it's not something I hear a lot, having so many cousins. On my
father's side, I am #3 in the lineup!
My grandfather had a farm and we, all 31 of us, grew up on the divided
land. We were all just happy little rugrats, not knowing what a wide
world was waiting for us. Our summers were spent roaming the hills,
filled with wild blueberries, blackberries, any fruit you could imagine.
And then our mothers would wonder why, come suppertime, we weren't all
that hungry!
We made campfires that we weren't allowed to make, we played baseball in
my cousin's field and we camped out down the lake. We grew strong and
happy. What a wonderful world.
Oh, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY, Gary, and to all the father's everywhere. I'm
fortunate to still have my father, who is 91 years young. He is a wonder
to all of us. When my daughter was in 6th grade, she wrote a composition
for school, "My Grandfather is Just Like Andy Griffith". Nothing seems
to bother him and he takes one day at a time.
Thank you again, Gary. And God bless you.
God bless all,
Janice
Hi Gary,
I am happy you are keeping the website. I do miss the show, my listening
time was usually from midnight to 2 AM. It is so quiet in my house at
that time. If I have the radio on, it is listening to WDUQ. But, I miss
all the old friends that were calling into your show. And also the
bumper music and info about the music.
I loved seeing that picture of the people at the picnic. I never called
in, but did enjoy knowing all those nice people.
I will be on a family vacation on July 20, or might try to come to the
picnic, even no one would know me. I know them.
Take care and keep up the good work. I would help you do some of the
computer work, but don't know how that could work. Too bad everyone does
not have a computer. They would enjoy using it.
Pat from North Versailles
Gary,
I just love your website and want to thank you for keeping it going. I
will be sure to send anything along that is helpful or just cute and fun
to read.
Thanks again,
Pat Toth
Hi Gary,
Well I just found your website, or rather had the patience to wait for
it to be downloaded. I love it – I haven’t read all the personal
updates, but hit on the one where you may shut it down.
Believe me you
are surely missed!!! I haven’t listened to KDKA at your spot since you
left. I understand it is not worth listening to. In desperation I put
WPIT – Gallagher – and who wants to hear politics. I am sure by now we
are all tired of politics.
I hope that you are happy in what you are doing. I am praying that we
will sonn hear your voice again. Maybe KDKA will wise up and beg you to
come back. You were sooo different and inspiring and just wonderful to
listen to.
Take care and God Bless.
Angeline
P.S. I have been praying that I could get your website and here I am.
Gary,
How well I know the feeling when your facing an open door and the only
thought running through your mind is ????? I'm so thrilled to hear that
you had a happy ending to your story.
Late last August, my husband and I took leave of our senses and added
yet another English Mastiff to our family. Yes, another. Three dogs, a
shepherd/lab mix, a 2 year old English Mastiff and an English Mastiff
puppy, Dad's Last Dollar, or Bill for short.
Seriously, we would have been ahead financially to pledge prime rib for
every homeless person in Butler, 'vettes for all four kids and then
start a bonfire with the rest of our money. Bill was really determined
to see our last dollar!
Bill is now 11 months old, about 165 pounds (yes one hundred, sixty five
pounds) and we really believed he was dumber than a red brick, but in
the past several weeks, I"m beginning to think he knows how to get the
best of me, starting with tearing into a backrest pillow in the living
room and ending with going to church on Sunday...I'm thinking I'm too
old for this!
I was such an avid listener of your show, but frequently too lazy to
find my phone to call in...but seriously, these last two episodes would
have been worthy of a call!
Gary, if you have time, please stop in and read about it on my blog.
Here's the link to the two Bill episodes:
http://redsockmama.blogspot.com/search/label/Bill
Of course, there are other things, but Bill (and his photos) are what I
think you'd enjoy...just don't let Raleigh read it. He might get ideas!
So thankful that you give all your 'invisible friends' a chance to stay
in touch. It's very kind of you!
Peace,
Jan
Hi Gary,
I wrote to you about a month or so ago to see how you were doing. You
answered pretty quick and I thank you!
As I told you, I no longer listen to KDKA; After you left it seem they
put on “canned” programs that your listeners have no interest in.
Anyway, I would like to learn more about the picnic. Could you put me in
touch with Adam? I dearly would love to go and meet the people that I
always felt were my friends!!
Thank you for keeping up your website…… and know that you are loved.
Carol T.
Hi Gary,
I loved reading "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening"! That is one
of my most favorite poems. I've memorized it long ago. It seems like
such an easy poem to write, but I've written some poetry (lately, my ode
to your show, remember, "Happy Anniversary After Midnight") and his poem
is just brilliant in its simplicity. And with the high temps were going
to get, it's on your site at just the right time!!
I, like many others, click onto your site every day, just to see what's
happening. It's just good plain fun. Something so lacking in this world.
We sure miss you and your show. You were the perfect glue to hold us all
together.
I'm still counting the days until Nov. 11, when "God Stories" will be
released. Seems like forever. I hope my story will be comforting to
others. Well, what a coincidence to be listening to After Midnight when
you had Jennifer Skiff as your guest. You see, we are always thanking
you for something or other. And I really thank you for listening to her
story. The cover is beautiful; it's on Amazon for presale, but she's
sending you one so don't order it.
God bless all,
Janice
Thank you Gary for keeping our little family together. This is Alice
with the versacorder. I always recorded your show and could never call
in, now I can send in things like recipes ,etc.
My daughter and I met you and Shea at the last picnic. I
finally got to meet Lorna and Adam although we had talked many times on
the phone. You may remember me as Zelie Bob's rendezvous date at the
last Horse Traders Days. I'm new on the computer, my daughter gave it to
me for Christmas so don't laugh to much at my mistakes.
Thank you again Gary,
Alice
Dear Gary,
I just read your update for May 22,2008. I love your your web
messages. I loved your pictures of all of the crew. Gee, Gary I only
called you 3 times but I sure would like to attend the picnic. I still
miss your voice on the radio. Its been so hard not having you on.
Whatever you want me to bring to the picnic or pay my fair share, just
let me know.
Hope your family is doing well and your dog too.
Love,
Irene and Lou Milligan
Dear Gary,
Although I never called into your radio show, I enjoyed
listening to it. Most of the listeners who called in, I enjoyed
listening to, especially the regulars. You had a special group of people
among your listeners. I enjoyed your program format as the majority of
your listeners probably did also, and was so sorry to find out recently
that you would no longer
be on the air. I did write to KDKA-Radio to voice my opinion and found
out from their reply that they had over 1,000 responses to the fact that
you would no longer be on the air. I do hope that you will find another
"nitche" here in the Pittsburgh area so I (and others) can enjoy your
program and the special people that would call in.
There sure is a market in this area for the type of talk show that you
had. I miss your callers as it was a special type of "club" and they
certainly were a special group of people. Your program was a program one
could relax and listen to and enjoy where the majority of the time
people did not talk about politics and violence. It was the perfect
ending to the day and your show, I'm sure, is missed by many. I will
check your web site every so often and hope to hear the good news
sometime that you will be back on the air again.
God bless you--you are truly a very sincere Christian person--it came
across in your program. There are not very many people like you on the
air in this day and age. I do hope that you are able to find another
radio station in the area willing to air a talk show in the special
format that you present.
I wish you the best of luck in the future,
Karen
Gary, Gary, Gary,
Just don't know what to do any more. I'm so used to listening to you
after midnight and now I just lay there wondering how you are and how
the "family" is doing.
I really miss you and all the callers. Have you
heard from Punxy Ray? Bet he's fuming!! Heard about 5 min of that Dennis
miller and couldn't even make out what he was talking about. I wrote 2
letters to KD. Just wish they would get you back on the air. You truly
were the best talk show host they ever had. We miss you so much. I feel
like someone has died.
Hope you and family are doing well and soon you will have another show
that we can listen to. You will let us know right?
Missing you,
Ruth

ending to the day and your show, I'm sure, is missed by many. I will
check your web site every so often and hope to hear the good news
sometime that you will be back on the air again.
God bless you--you are truly a very sincere Christian person--it came
across in your program. There are not very many people like you on the
air in this day and age. I do hope that you are able to find another
radio station in the area willing to air a talk show in the special
format that you present.
I wish you the best of luck in the future,
Karen
Hi Gary,
I read your website note and I am sorry. I was figuring that is what
happened. Mike McGann from WJAS was also let go.
I feel bad for the "family." Please feel free to email me at any time
and I will keep checking out your website, hoping you will be back on
the air in the city. Miss hearing your voice and the nice people who
called every night.
Darrell from New York called in last week denouncing KDKA and said he
will never call any talk shows at KDKA again. Sounds like a loyal fan.
Take care,
Nancy
Gary,
Are you on the air anywhere???? KDKA's schedule really stinks, I don't
understand where they are coming from? I'm getting more sleep, that's
for sure! There's nothing worth listening to on KDKA anymore.
JoAnn
Hi Gary,
I hope that you are making progress in your job search. You deserve
better than what you had.
After listening to KDKA since 1962 I’m not listening to it any more!
I’ve been reviewing the tapes that I made on my VersaCorder from
midnight till 4 am, then getting up at 4 and turning the radio on and
listening until 5 am, I just can’t take it any more! I’ve been listening
to 1360 AM lately, but it’s not hitting the spot yet but it will have to
do until I find something else. I’ve had it with KDKA; it STINKS TO HIGH
HEAVEN since this past Monday!!! I just wanted to let you know, I’ll
never forget your show and all of the fine and interesting callers and
conversations. I wish you luck in the future, and I’ll still keep you
and your family in my prayers.
You’re Buddy,
Bill
Gary,
I used to be a steady listener, but because of changes in my work
schedule I only caught your show on occasion until I read last Tuesday
in the paper that you would no longer be on KDKA.
I am very sorry to hear that, no replacement is satisfactory to me. I
read your message on your website and hope to find you broadcasting in
the local area as soon as possible, and I am certain that alot of your
listeners and callers agree.
Best wishes to you and your family and please come back.
Karen
Hi Gary,
I was shocked to say the least to have gone to your site and read
your letter. I had sent a few emails that I thought might be of interest
and they bounced back.
Last night I went to KDKA.com and you were nowhere to be found. Just
tried your site and I see it's back up. Thank the Lord (and you.) In the
winter I work days so I'm not a faithful listener. Still, I have to say
I'm very shocked. Over the years as they've added info shows, it became
time for me to change the station. I'm as quick with a radio as I am
with the TV remote.
I truly wish you the very best with whatever you get into. You're a
winner and a real gem of a person. I'm not a radio business executive
but it seemed to me that there was not to many times when the phones
were silent.
Sorry to run on, but from a person that is not able to listen nearly as
much as I would like to, you will be missed.
Peace, Love and all God's good,
Ed from Long Island
Gary,
I have been listening to KDKA for well over 50 years. No more! The over
night programming now is terrible. I e-mailed KDKA and told them so! Was
sorry to hear you were let go and the way KDKA handled it. Hope you pop
up somewhere in the Pittsburgh market soon because I will be listening.
Now what is Jerry from Philadelphia going to do? Besides his sports
knowledge he just seemed like he was lonesome and just wanted to talk
most mornings. Good luck and God bless!
Donna
Gary,
I know, I know...I wasn't supposed to sleep when you were on,
but....I always knew that I could wake up to hearing Lorna or Eva or
Postal Dave or......Now, I realize they aren't there anymore....Man, we
sure do miss you all.!!!!!
Spoke with Marshall Adams last night{he actually called me back}and told
him of our disapproval of this situation. He told me he came from WBT in
Charlotte. He actually asked me if I listened to Coast To Coast on that
channel at night....is he crazy?
Well Gary, we are praying for you and thinking of you. Hope all is well.
Please keep us up to date with your plans.
Take care,
Mike and Kim from South Carolina
Gary,
Following is a copy of the email that I sent to KDKA Radio today:
As a regular listener to KDKA Radio I am respectfully requesting that
Michael Young and Keith Clark reconsider the decision to eliminate
local, live talk during the late night hours. Local talk has always been
a Pittsburgh tradition. Dennis Miller is NOT "The voice of Pittsburgh."
These changes do not benefit the local listening audience in any way.
How often did the decision makers listen to KDKA Radio throughout the
night?
How many regular listeners were asked for opinions in this matter?
Mr. Young is quoted as saying that he is "committed to airing local,
live programming during the evening hours." What commitment is he making
regarding local programming during the late night hours?
Last night's weather situation is an example of how important local talk
is to late night listeners. No truckers or late night workers calling in
to Dennis Miller with Pittsburgh road conditions as they have in the
past.
Gary Dickson was a fine host who generated a family of callers as well
as new listeners. This programming change has broken up that family,
destroyed a Pittsburgh tradition, deprived an honorable talk show host
and staff of earning a living, and drastically limits advertiser's
exposure.
I will be interested to hear feedback regarding the above.
J.P.
Dear Gary,
I'm so disgusted with KDKA, to ruin my nights with this
bullcrap that they put on the air.
I tried to listen last night and that disgusting Dennis Miller was on. I
immediately shut it off and just went to sleep.
I miss the family so much. I always hated when you went on vacation,
and now this. I never thought I would get so involved in radio
broadcasting. I miss you so much. God bless you and your family. Good
Luck and hope to hear from you again.
Love,
Irene.
P.S. My granddaughter is so disappointed. She cried for you Gary.
Gary,
I have been listening to KDKA since I was a kid enjoying Ed and Wendy
King. Kept listening through Perry Marshall, Bob Logue and of course
you.
I cannot believe that KDKA does not care about their Pittsburgh
audience. What a loss it will be to your loyal callers and loyal
listeners. Sometimes I wondered what planet Earl or George and crazy
John were on, but I still enjoyed them and the respect you always showed
each caller. Wow will I ever know if the arm wrestling competition came
about??? You took that in such a good spirit.
I never called in but I was as much a part of the family as "Cookie
Lady", Smacky, TL, etc.
I wonder if KDKA knows what a void will be in so many people's lives. I
am concerned about those who are alone and looked so forward to nights
with your show.
Shame on KDKA, which used to be "Someplace Special". They got rid of the
Pirates, now you. I let them know that NOBODY is interested in
syndicated shows, especially Dennis Miller or that other program which
follows….who cares about the weather on the western plains.
I thought those infomercials were bad, but I think KDKA needs to take
some of that intestine track cleansing to their upper management and
program directors. Because they really are full of it.
I sincerely hope you find a great spot on a Pittsburgh station. Someone
out there should know if you have a midnight talk show, the audience
would be huge. Perhaps there is management out there that really is
interested in Pittsburgh people.
Needless to say 1020 is no longer on my radio dial, how strange it is to
sleep without a radio on.
God Bless and please keep us informed as you can.
Hi Gary,
You're special and you deserve the best. Thoughts and prayers
from someone who cares. I thought about you today, I care about you
always. Whatever happens, never forget how amazing you are! You're on my
mind and in my heart.
Betty
Gary,
I have written to you several times over the course of time that you
were on the radio. I was shocked when I heard about them taking you off
the air.
I am absolutely disgusted with KDKA radio. It seems they always get rid
of the good people. They did the same thing to Mike Pintek and when I
wrote asking if they could please let me know how he could be reached
they would not even tell me. I wanted to just say good-bye because I
really liked his show. I complained about them letting him go and they
said to give Marty Griffin a chance. Marty is ok but I still miss Mike
and I rarely even put the radio on to KDKA anymore, except to listen to
you. I really enjoyed
your show but due to the fact that I have to get up early I could not
stay awake all night though I would have liked to. I thought that
perhaps you were sick again but nothing was being said. I wondered what
happened until I read of your departure in the newspaper. I was very sad
to hear about that. I thought your show was the best one on KDKA and was
sorry that it was on so very late.
I just want to wish you well. You are a good man and deserve to be
treated much better then what they have done to you. Maybe you aren't
mad, but your listeners are. I sure hope that you do get a job with
another radio station in Pittsburgh. I will keep checking your website
for updates. Please let us know when you do. God bless and keep you and
I will also pray that you find a position in a place that really
appreciates your talent.
Good luck,
Dorothy
Gary,
I just wanted to let you know how much I will miss your after midnight
show. I was a listener and I really enjoyed it. I felt like I knew a lot
of the callers and they talked about local concerns. I think that the
situation was not handled very well, but that is usually the way things
go with the higher ups. I am so tired of syndicated radio shows. I wish
you and your family luck in whatever you pursue. God bless and take
care.
Barb
Dear Mister Dickson (Gary),
Greetings. I am another one of your silent listeners, and now I am sorry
that I did not try
harder to listen on a regular basis. (I did call in once.) We need MORE
of your type of show, NOT less! Some of us are into kinder, gentler
fare, not the constant barrage of politics. There IS more to life than
politics!!! I know that it is corny and perhaps little consolation, but
"When one door closes, another opens". You hopefully are moving in the
direction where the Good Shepherd designs you to be for "such a time as
this" (the Book of Esther). Who(m)ever is the program director at
KDKA-AM 1020 has messed up
big-time by letting a treasure like you, and in turn, treasures such as
"The Cookie Lady", et al, go! I, myself, constantly get "screwed over"
(excuse my "French"); it is just a spiritual battle, not actually a
physical battle, the way of this corrupt world.
If possible, PLEASE put me on your e-mail list and let me know of any
pertinent information, such as if / when you pop up on the air again.
God Bless you as you continue your journey, Dear Friend.
Shalom,
Tamara Ann
Dear Gary,
I only hope you will please let your many interested listeners know when
you are picked up by a more intelligent radio station. You have provided
my husband and I many hours of comfort at night when sleep was not
available. You will never know how much you will be missed. We were
never callers, but always enjoyed your patience with your many callers,
and your wise and informed opinions on many issues. I had to get up for
work this AM and heard the drivel provided by KDKA in your place. Trust
that we will be finding a new station to get us up in the morning, and
hopefully, you will be there. God bless you and keep you safe. A
faithful, but very sad listener
Gayle
Dear Gary,
When I heard the news that Kdka let you go because of the bottom line
needless to say I was shocked and very very sad. This station did the
same thing to Bob Logue. I'm 57 years old and have been tuning to Kdka
since JACK WHEELER! It seems to me that Kdka will eventually go to all
syndicated shows. I have been a loyal fan of yours and this station
however they have not been loyal to their employees or their listeners.
I plan to call Michael Young and explain this to him. Shame on this
station for being so un-caring to everyone. My name is Rita Weber and my
husband and I have always listened to you since your first night. I even
called Michael Young and told him what a great choice you where.
Needless to say I will not be listening to the bottom line Dennis Miller
Someone missing you
Rita
Gary,
I was a listener who will miss you very much. I enjoyed the callers and
the songs that you played that brought back so many happy times my wife
and I had when we were younger. I lost my wife 8 years ago and being
alone with just my dog (bearded collie) I never missed your nightly
program for the entire 5 hours.
I pray that you will stay in Pgh and find a job that will let you spend
more evening hours with your family and bring you a lot of happiness.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
Frank
PS; I really miss you. Please keep us aware of your location so that we
can hopefully listen to you.
Dear Gary,
I tuned into your show on what I think was Tuesday evening into
Wednesday, and heard a fill-in guy. I first thought that maybe you were
sick or had a family issue or something like that. I started to hear
callers talk about you in the past tense, and that didn't make sense to
me. Usually Dr.Knowledge fills in for you and that night he wasn't so I
was very confused. When I read in the paper that KDKA was bringing in
new host to fill in your time slot with people who didn't succeed on
93.7 I was SHOCKED. If they sucked on the last radio station, how will
they do good now. No one will listen because all of your listeners will
not be listening. This idea is bad from the start. I am 15 years old and
a sophomore at Ambridge Area High School and I listen to you when I have
a late night doing homework or etc.and I usually fall asleep to your
show. Now there is nothing on to fall asleep to. The nights are going to
be too quiet. I never called into the show, but I was planning to
sometime soon. Now I can't because KDKA as ruined late-night talk. I
will still listen to Dr.K on weekends, but you and him have the best
shows on the radio dial. I hope I get to hear your voice again on the
radio sometime soon. Hopefully, on a local station. I wish you the best
of luck in the future. I wish you and your family well.
Matt
Ambridge PA
Hi Gary,
Thanks so much for letting us listeners know what really happened to
you! While I never called into the show I was sure a faithful listener.
My schedule usually only allowed me to listen for the first and last
half-hours but I always enjoyed what was going on and came to know and
love your regular callers. I now feel very sad and very cheated that it
has been taken away, and I am sure many of your listening audience
members must feel the same. I especially feel bad for the listeners for
who you were their main source of news and entertainment.........the
disabled, the elderly, the shut-ins, and especially the insomniacs, they
must be feeling an extreme sense of loss now also. You could hear it in
some of the caller's voices that your show is what they mainly looked
forward to Sun-Thurs nights and this will create a huge void in their
lives.
Over the years this overnight show had become a real Pittsburgh
tradition and KDKA should be ashamed of themselves for making such a
dumb decision. KDKA radio used to call themselves, "Someplace
Special"..............how sad that it no longer fits the radio station.
We wish you all the best and sincerely hope that you can find a way to
keep the website up, at least for a little while, so that we the
listeners can stay informed and connected somehow. Have you thought
about a MySpace page??? No cost connecting with your listeners that way,
although I don't know what would work for those without a computer. I
wasn't sure if anyone could fill Bob Logue's shoes when he left but you
actually made the show even better. We have all come to care about you
and your family and hope that your prayers will guide you successfully
to the next chapter in your life. I hope another radio station in town
has the intelligence to give you a call, please keep us all posted if
you can!
Take care,
Cindy
Hi Gary:
I’ve been a KDKA listener since Ed and Wendy King. I’ve been listening
to you since you replaced Bob Logue. To tell you the truth I think that
you had a GREAT SHOW, it was very interesting and I loved it. I go to
bed early but I have a CC Radio and a Versacorder and I would set it to
come on at midnight until 4 am. that is when I get up and I would turn
the radio on and listen to you from 4 am. till 5 am. then I would listen
to Marty’s show from 9 till 12 pm. after that I would turn on the
Versacorder and listen to your show that I missed while I was asleep, so
I didn’t miss anything. Like I said you had a great show, I just
couldn’t stay away from it, and then you were gone!! It really surprised
me and I miss you a lot. I wish you well in the future and hope and find
something quick. Gary I’ll keep you in my prayers every night hoping
that you will find work soon, and I’ll also be keeping your family in my
prayers.
You’re Friend,
Bill
Gary,
I tried to send an e-mail to your address at KDKA, but it didn't go
through. I am so disappointed that you will not be on the air at KDKA. I
really enjoyed listening to the people that called in to talk. You
developed a loyal following in the 3 years since you started. I can't
believe that after all these years of KDKA having a local talk show
after midnight, that they are now going with a cookie cutter national
show!!! KDKA has made a few mistakes in the past and again this is one
of them. This is so depressing to think that I won't be turning on KDKA
starting on Monday at midnight anymore. You did a great job on your show
and on your web page. Good luck with your future plans. You will be
missed.
Bunny
Dear Gary,
This is such a dreadful day for me and Pittsburgh. I just learned your
no longer on KDKA. Now I have the unfortunate duty to tell my
granddaughter. She loved to listen to you. I don't know if you remember
her, her name was Meghan. She called you a few times cause she was so
excited to tell you about her trip to Disney World.
I know your a good person, cause when a child develops a liking to and
older person just by listening and talking to a person who she has never
seen, you must of been special. She will be devastated. I guess I will
not listen to KDKA any longer. How can they get rid of you and keep that
awful Dr. Knowledge. I'm so bewildered. I hope you stay in Pittsburgh
and hope you land a better job. Please Gary email me and let me know how
you are doing.
Tell your wife we all love you. What are we to do with this awful
programming they have at KDKA. I miss you so much.
Love Irene
Gary,
I, too, am a great fan of yours and was shocked not to hear your After
Midnight voice. I liked your demeanor, your calmness, your humor and you
are a good person for a talk show host. I just don't understand KDKA and
never will. They hire John Cigna, John Shumway, Larry Rickert, Rick
Bergeman and let you go - I don't get it! I'm sorry and I hope you stay
in Sewickley and best of luck in the future.
Peggy
Gary,
My name is Dave. I emailed you one time from CLT. I work for US Airways.
We listened to you from about 3:30 am until 5:00 every day minus the
weekends of course.
You didn’t work weekends. I too work a ton of midnights. One good thing
is that you will have somewhat of a normal life again.
I wrote to KDKA expressing my displeasure with what happened to you.
We will miss you. We will also miss the little family that you
developed. The guy from Philly, Postal Dave, etc. We enjoyed your
development from Bob’s show and we feel like we got to know you.
Best of luck to you and hopefully you will be back on the air soon. We
will be eager to tune back in. Kdka is no longer on my listen list.
David
Bethel Park.
Dear Gary,
WOW! What on earth happened?! I tuned in the other night and heard Dr.
Knowledge; I thought that you had the night off so I switched to another
station. I tuned in last night and heard that you were no longer on
After Midnight. I was stunned! Other than hearing Earl Jones boring
drone every night I truly enjoyed listening to your program. I will
certainly look into contacting the appropriate person to voice my
complaints and outrage.
As far as I am concerned, KDKA started circling the drain (so to speak)
when they dropped Mike Pintek and moved O'Reilly to 10 P.M. (O'Reilly @
10 is like reading yesterday's paper.) I had my radio tuned to the
station at my desk during the day and from midnight until it was time to
leave for work in the morning. The only time slot I will listen to now
is 5 - 9 A. M.
Gary, I am truly sorry that you are no longer working at KDKA but as
they say: "When God closes a door He opens a window." I hope that you
find that open window soon!
All the best!
Elizabeth
Gary:
I tuned in Thursday night and was shocked to hear that KDKA was
apparently taking your program off the air. I can't believe that they
are doing this. They were fortunate enough to find someone like yourself
who made a seamless transition when the wildly popular Bob Logue
retired, and apparently the powers that be are too stupid to realize it.
Trust me, I have already notified KDKA of my displeasure with this
decision.
I have been a listener since you replaced Bob Logue, and though we don't
always agree on issues I have always been impressed with your respect
for your listeners regardless of whether their views agree with yours or
not. This is a rare quality in today's world.
I sympathize with your many fans as I know they will miss you greatly.
Please let me know where you are headed, and if your fans will be able
to contact you at this e-mail address in the future. I certainly hope
you will be remaining in the Pittsburgh market, but regardless of where
you end up, best of luck to you and your family.
Bill
Beaver County
Gary,
Although I never called the show, I listened every night while I
delivered newspapers and I wanted to thank you for the three years of
entertaining radio.
While I may not have agreed with all your points of view, I could tell
you had a kind heart, especially with the older callers, and that is
what kept me listening after Bob Logue retired. So I listened to you
from the time you started to fill in through your first show to what
turned out to be your final show, and you did a wonderful job.
While I feel bad that you have lost your job, I know with your
experience you will be fine. I'm honestly more concerned about the
elderly callers like Lorna and Eva and all the others who looked forward
to your companionship.
I hope you will find something in the Pittsburgh area so that you remain
in the area.
Best wishes to you and your family, and it would be great if you could
keep your listeners up to date on what transpires in your career.
Thanks again
Ken
Stupid, stupid, stupid!! I learned of the shocking news this morning
and I couldn't believe it. The bottom has dropped out of my world. I
know these things happen because similar things have happened to a few
members of my family, including me. My life won't be the same and I know
that many, many others feel the same way. The best of luck to you, and I
hope to hear that you have found a better position with an even better
radio station in your area very soon.
Ruth
Hudson, NY
Dear Gary,
I am saddened by you no longer at KDKA..... I didn't call as many times
as I would have loved to but I start Listening from day 1..... I loved
your show so much that I put up with the nasty Commercials that young
aired with were all the sickening Advertisements for the "E.D."
remedies.... I even put up the weekend
"Hucksters" That push "Miracle" cures, i.e.. Garbage ......
I have been a steady listener To KDKA since the early 80's and As I say
good bye to you, I said Good bye to KDKA ..... Thank goodness I found
another Station that I can enjoy.... It's a real shame that we now have
To "family" on the radio talk to air all Our troubles to....and I'll
remember You in my thoughts and prayers and Hope I come across you on
another Station....
I'm sorry to say that since that Mike Young became GM, KDKA has Went to
hell in a hand basket and it's All about money, we know that by the
Distasteful commercials and hours of the Pill thumpers that claim to be
"doctors".... Just because we're older don't mean we're Dumber than
dirt..... Once again Gary, we'll miss you soooooo. Much Love, Hugs and
prayers.
Sincerely
A no more KDKA listener
Hi Gary,
Turned in last nite and learned you are no longer with KD. I've listened
to your show since you first started and can honestly say you did a
great job filling Bob Logue's shoes!
You've probably gotten millions of emails, but just wanted to add mine
to the pile and say, "You Will Be Greatly Missed"; and, if you ever do a
flyby over Cranberry Twp, make sure you waggle your wings!
Goodnight and God Bless..
Gene
P.S. I can understand how shocked you were when you signed off on
Tuesday. The same thing happened to me after 13 years with my former
employer!
Hi Gary,
I'm a bit late, but just wanted to express my sadness that your show is
no longer on KDKA. I was a frequent listener - one time caller I always
appreciated your point of view, patience, and well-rounded knowledge. I
hope you land on a station which I can hear in the Pittsburgh market.
Since I was unexpectedly "released" from my job (which I loved) several
weeks ago, I can only share with you something you probably already
know. You are highly competent and talented, and another opportunity for
you to exhibit your skills will emerge.
Best wishes and many thanks for hundreds of enjoyable listening hours.
Diane
Gary,
It is not goodbye for soon we will be hearing you. I do thank you for
answering my E Mails. I know, with the help of God, your future will be
even brighter. We have the BEST Helper we could every imagine on our
side. You would think that KDKA would understand people, especially talk
shows. They could never imagine the impact of your leaving on your
listeners. I know, I for one, and others I have talked to are really
hurting. What am I going to do at night? Gary was so comforting. Do they
know what it is to keep turning that dial, and hearing nothing worth
listening to? You were an essential part of the lives of people at that
time. Is not that more important than keeping the budget!! I can think
of many places they could have cut the budget. I strongly feel that they
are going in the wrong direction.
I, of course, do not like the way it was done - so very inhuman. I left
a message and told them that. We need compassion for one another,
especial when the performance was the best. You are in our prayers, and
I know He will open up many options. Other radio stations should be
knocking at your door, or in today's world flooding you with phone calls
and E Mail.
God Bless
Angeline
Hi Gary:
I’m just writing to let you know how much I miss your show. I’m
listening to this new guy but it just don’t interest me anymore, not too
many of the regular callers are calling in anymore like our buddy Jerry
from Philly. and a lot more, it seems like there is a new group of
people calling now, I don’t know where they came from, but a few of the
regulars are calling but all they want to know is where Gary is at?
I’ve been turning the dial trying to find something to listen to that
interest me but I can only listen to 1360 for just so long, you know
what I mean? Talk about UFO’s and ghosts and all of the rest of that
type of stuff!
Anyway Gary I’ll still keep you and your family in my prayers at night
and I’ll never forget you. Good luck to you in the future, I hope that
you find new work soon that pays more than KDKA did!!
You’re Buddy,
Bill
Gary,
I was sorry to hear that you were gone from KDKA. I hope you the best in
you’re future endeavors. Although it was a surprise, I was not really
surprised at all, I sort of expected it sooner.
You had a large following and no matter what is said I cannot believe
that KDKA’s decision was strictly budgetary. My personal feelings is
that racial issues had a lot to do with their decision. You were just
too opinionated over racial issues for KDKA; they buckle under to the
minorities.
I will miss you and I would hope that you would get another station in
the Pittsburgh area, but you would be better off
if you would get
the hell out of PA,I would if I could!
If you wouldn’t mind, let me know what happens to you.
YOU WERE/ARE GREAT ON THE RADIO!
Larry
Dear Gary,
I wanted to let you know that I will miss your late night show and to
wish you the best of luck in your new endeavors. I was shocked to learn
that you were no longer with KDKA and only knew because I heard a few
words from Dr. Knowledge in response to a caller. My efforts to find
some more information led me to your website and your explanation.
You will be missed by many and I am sure that KDKA must be receiving an
ear full from all of those who loved to tune in to you during the week.
I never called in, I am shy that way J, but I listen in every night and
fall asleep to KDKA. Thank you for doing such a great job over the years
by entertaining, educating, informing, and just plain making us laugh at
times. Best of luck to you and I am sorry to see you go. I am sure that
you will be successful in whatever avenues that you may take.
Dear Gary,
You don't know me, I have been one of your "silent listeners." Many a
long hour you have helped me make it through the night. I tuned in last
night about 3:20 am and couldn't believe my ears-----almost every call
was a distress call wanting you back where you belong. You have been the
answer to every lost souls prayer!--Were you too kind, too caring, too
Republican?------Words cannot express how sad I am that you will no
longer be a click away on my night table.----I wish you well Gary, I
feel as though I have lost a good friend, even though I never called, I
enjoyed all of the other people that did, just like a big family.-----I
just had to let you know that you have touched many lives more then you
will ever know.
May God Bless You,
Jane
Dear Mr. Dickson, I'm very sorry that KDKA decided to let you
go. I was not able to listen to your entire show. I would usually listen
the last 20 minutes because that was when I woke up to start my day. I
enjoyed the show & hearing your pleasant voice. I pray that I will hear
you on the airwaves soon. I'm not sure if a Christian talk show is
something you would consider but WORD FM needs to replace the afternoon
duo with you!
May God richly bless you & your family,
Julie
Are These people serious, they have to be freaking "INSANE"...I'm an
overnight truck driver who has been listening to you and Bob Logue as
long as I can remember ,you guys have kept me awake for years!!!!I enjoy
the callers and your opinions on all matters!!!!I just can't believe
they would be so "STUPID" All I can say is that they SCREWED up totally
this time!!!!!!You are a class act and I wish you well no matter where
you go....I just hope you stay local so I can tune in!!!!!! I was on
vacation this week and just heard the news, so this is my first E-Mail
about this!!!!! When I get done with Michael Young he may leave
too!!!!!!
GARY YOU HAVE MY BEST WISHES
Larry
Gary:
Thinks for getting back to me. My constant prayer will be that you do
show up on another Pittsburgh station. It was also a pleasure to hear
you state your Christian views, and it seems we are always the ones that
lose, but we, as Christians, know that we are in God's care and he will
take care of everything in his time. I am just sorry I did not call in
to the program, but always know I will be praying for you.
Gary
I was surprised and sad to hear Dr. Knowledge say that you were no
longer at KDKA. I enjoyed listening to you when I get up in the morning.
(I also go to Christ Church at Grove Farm - so I was pleased that you
tried to portray a Christian point of view).
MMF
Dear Gary,
I was listening to your program tonight and you weren't there. I miss
you and I enjoyed your program, I don't call the radio station but I
listen every night. I am very saddened that you are leaving and very
concerned as to why you were let go. I don't believe that I'll be
listening to the station anymore.
Your radio listener,
Gloria
Gary,
I really miss you and your show! I heard what Darrell from New York said
to the fill-in guy and I so agree. Your did put together an exceptional
talk show which was unique and, I thought, very easy to listen to.
Darrell said he is not going to listen to the station any longer and I
don't think I will listen to that prerecorded stuff either.
I will probably go to KQV which is all news radio but they do have
"When Radio Was" on the weekend which I listed to time to time now when
I get tired of Dr. Knowledge..
Take care of yourself - I sincerely hope you find employment with a
company that truly appreciates you!
Sincerely,
Marilyn
Hi Gary,
I am one of those followers of your After Midnight Show. I never called
the show but did send an E-mail once!
I think KDKA has lost it!! I cannot begin to tell you how I really feel
about what they have done to Pittsburgh People plus a whole lot of
others.
As far back as I can remember, Pittsburgh People had a show to listen to
that they could call. My Mother (God Rest Her Soul) would put her small
transistor radio near her pillow
to hear the shows. When I finally had to place her in a home, I felt
comfortable leaving her with her head phones on to listen to the
Undercover Club at that time. She sure enjoyed the finer things in life
a TALK show and Music from My fair Lady!! I mention this because of all
the ladies and gents that enjoyed your show (me too) and KDKA took that
away. Shame on them!!
I would like to somehow Petition for the Tradition . Give back After
Midnight!!!!!!! I believe for ONCE KDKA should do the right thing for
Pittsburgh People!!!
I really hope that God will guide you and your family . You have been an
inspiration to many. Oh and a cure for insomnia too!!
You need a day in Amhland with your wife. Have you ever been to Ohio
Amish country? If not, let me know and I will get some information to
you.
If there is anything I can do to help get After Midnight back on the
clock, let me know.
God Bless You
Vicki
What happened to your show??? I listen every night and all of a sudden
there is no more good show to listen to at night on KDKA.
We Miss You,
Jeannetta
Gary. My husband & I are just devastated when we learned that you are no
longer with KDKA. You will be missed dearly. We don't know why you left
but pray that someday you will be back again. May God bless you in
whatever the future holds for you and your family.
Love and affection,
Don and Joanne
Gary
I have enjoyed listening to you since you took over the Undercover
Club. I know that I have been out of it for a while with the flu, but I
would swear I heard you this past Sunday night/Monday morning? Then,
Tuesday, I wake up and hear Dr. K say that you no longer work there?
What happened? I thought we all enjoyed this show? You will be missed,
as will many of your viewpoints. God Bless.
JMcK
Hi Gary,
I never called in but I used to listen to you every night. I really miss
your show. I am sorry that you are no longer there. I was wondering if
there is any way I could get some of the poems that you had posted on
your web site. I forget the gentleman that wrote them but he use to call
in and read them over the air. You are really going to be missed.
Donna
I'm 76 years old and although I never called, I felt like a part of 'the
family'. I was hoping to hear from you, take care.
We love you,
JoAnn from Straw Pump (Irwin)
HI GARY,
I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY TO YOU , BUT I AM SO SORRY YOU ARE NOT ON THE
KDKA RADIO STATION. BUT I WILL NO LONGER LISTEN TO THEIR STATION. YOU
WERE THE BEST ! I KNOW ALL OF US WILL MISS YOU DEEPLY. WANT TO WISH YOU
THE VERY BT, WERE EVER YOU MAY GO. HOPEFULLY LOCAL. KDKA HAS MAKE A
HORRIBLE MISTAKE. ITS THERE LOSS. WELL GARY YOU TAKE CARE , AND WE WILL
MISS YOU .
I AM SOOO SAD OVER THIS.
LUV YA !!!
BETTY IN CRAN BERRY
Dear Gary; I listened to your program every night, even though I never
called in. I cannot believe that they would let you go. You will be
missed greatly. I for one will not be listening to KDKA any more and I
told them so. Not that it will do any good, but as far as I am concerned
they need their head examined. They have brought to and end a wonderful
show and I will not only miss you, but I will also miss all the
wonderful people that you talked too. I hope you find a better station
to work for who will realize what an asset you are.
Sincerely,
Shirley
Hi Gary, I listened to you often but I missed Monday and Tuesday and was
shocked last night to hear you were gone, as the night progressed I found
out they left you go . what a shame you will be missed and you have so
many friends I pray for the very best for you I know some other station
will pick you up our loss their gain. God bless you! a friend
Although I never called the show, I just wanted to add my name to the
list of listeners who are so upset with KDKA. When Bob Logue retired, I
didn't think they would ever find a replacement for the type of show we
all loved, but, in fact, they found someone I liked even more. Your easy
going attitude was perfect for the all night show, your Christian
beliefs generated the kind of talk I like, and the music you added
contributed so much to the show. I hope that when you start a new show
on another station, that somehow I will find out about it, and you can
add me to your faithful listeners. Many thanks for the hundreds of hours
I spent listening.
Gary,
As I was listening to KDKA radio this afternoon, I thought I heard a
comment about someone other than you as being on from midnight - 3:00
am. Since this piqued my interest, I decided to check the KDKA website
to see that you are no longer listed as "on the air". Being really
curious then, I checked your website to see that you are no longer with
KDKA. I was really surprised by that. You see, I listened to you every
night since you started. I even sent the KDKA management an email at the
time you were beginning your stint with the station and it wasn't
announced whether you would be permanent. Let me tell you, I never had
sent such an email before, but you seemed to be the perfect fit.
I had delivered the Post-Gazette for 15 years and at the end of
December, 2007 I decided to hang it up. Working 7 days a week, 365 days
a year takes it's toll both physically and mentally. Thus, it was the
end of the line for me to be listening to late night radio. I was
tempted to call you several times, but either didn't have the nerve or
the time or maybe a little of both.
Whatever the reason you are no longer with KDKA, I wish you nothing but
the best in your future endeavors. I hope that it was your decision to
leave the station. You were always professional in your demeanor even
when I was screaming at the radio when you had some callers who were out
of line.
Good luck Gary......
Anne
I never called in but listen from 4 to 5 every day, you will sorely
missed. I'll will be only listening now to the Honz. Hope things come
you way and hope to hear you on the radio again. KDKA will be hearing
from me. God Bless You in your future endeavors.
Sincerely Robin
I have always enjoyed your show, this is their loss. Best of luck to
you. I’ll look for you on the airways.
Dennis
Gary, I was soooo upset to hear that you will not be on the radio,
Please join Rush and the others on station 104.7, KDKA is not worthy of
you, you're too kind. You made the cold dark nights like family night
together, please inform us all if you have your show again on any
station, we will follow and be happy again.........Please come back to
us.........xoxoxjimbibe, aka. Jim&Bibe, Aspinwall Pa.
Dear Gary,
Sorry that you will not be there when I start my day. You were great on
that show. I don't know why you have left but know you will be missed by
a lot of people. Not only in Pittsburgh.
Let me know if you will be on the air somewhere else.
Take care. God Bless.
Charlene
Gary, I will miss your show. You kept. me company many nights. Hopefully
you will stay in Sewickley. KDKA made a big mistake. Joan
Gary, I listened to you Monday night and fell asleep round 4 a.m. the
next night I was astonished to hear that you no longer work for kdka.
what happened. I have listened to you every night since you came on. I
am devastated. if you have a moment could you let me know what
happened.... even a generic message would help .... I am lost and
confused... help please. I will miss you as will all the family.
I am the guy that asked you a couple of weeks ago what car you are now
driving and I deliver newspapers for the Observer Reporter in
Washington. WHY did they have to get rid of you your great and kept
me awake at night.. You have made my life enjoyable while you were on
the radio and along with your other friends. Please e-mail me and let me
know what happened as much as you can say....this is a real tragedy to
the area..... John
Gary,
I tuned in last night to hear that you are no longer going to be on. I
don't know why&it isn't my business. if you decided to leave. good for
you! if they let you go. well they are making a big mistake. I have
listened to kdka overnight for many years and I think you were the
bestir hope you get back on somewhere in this area.
take care, god bless you&good luck
you will be missed
Gary from butler
Gary; Why? What will I do with my nights? I have listened to you since
you started. Oh how you filled my lonely nights. I only ever called once
to ask for a song, but always listened. When Friday morning came I
listened to FM music every night till you were back on Sunday. It was so
sudden. What happened?. Sincerely. Ruth
Gary
Wanted to let you know that I was a regular listener of your after
midnight show. I will miss you and the whole family that always called
in. I will also miss your web site, as it was very informative. I tried
calling KDKA several times, but the mailbox was always full. I did send
an email and have put a letter in the mail, expressing my great
disappointment. I am sure that many of the regular listeners did the
same. If you will be going to another station would you let me know, as
I would more than likely listen. I certainly will not be listening to
Dennis Miller or whatever is on after him. I will try to find another
local type show. Good luck in whatever you do.
Sincerely
Lorraine
Sorry to hear you are no longer at KDKA, what a shock! I do not know the
particulars. I hope you find something elsewhere. I enjoyed your program
and would like to see you back . You were always kind and patient to
everyone who called your show. I hope you fine success in whatever you
do. You will not be forgotten. Please you are in my thoughts and
prayers.
Your fan,
Rose
Gary:
I have listened to you every night since you begin your career at KDKA.
And what a disappointment when the other evening I heard you no longer
worked for KDKA.
I couldn’t get back to sleep wondering what had happened. How much can
you listen to Trivia?
Your political views are the same as mine, your belief in God are my
views also.
When I couldn’t sleep at night, it was a pleasure to listen you.
Gary I’m so sorry to see you go. I bet all those listeners that talked
to you just to find comfort, those are the people I feel sorry for.
What are you going to do now? Please let me know if you will be on
another station.
Signed,
One sorry listener.
Diana
Dear Gary, KDKA certainly wasn't thinking when they changed the program
format! Your After Midnight talk show was terrific along with being
unique. It was meaningful how you personalized the show with song
requests and then the poetry that was written by Tony
for the After Midnight family along with the other regular all ins. You
also had an extended listening family because KDKA broadcasted to other
cities and states at night. I enjoyed being a member of the After
Midnight family and I will miss not hearing you in that time slot. In
fact I won't be turning it on for a syndicated show. I will now write a
letter to the
station to voice my opinion. Gary, I wish you the best and will keep you
in my prayers that God will open a door for you.
Janet
Hi Gary,
I'm sorry to hear you no longer work for KDKA. I've been a long time
listener and enjoyed you very much. I can not imagine you offending
anyone. (I guess I could be assuming that is what happened.) I am sure
that the station will get many complaint's of your departure. I
probably will not hear them since I will no longer listen. I wish you
the very best --I am sure you will find work or it will find you before
you really get to enjoy the time off.
Go be a Blessing,
Tina
Hello Gary: I'm so sorry to learn that you are no longer employed by
KDKA. What a terrible loss to the Community at-large! Although I've
never called in to your program, I enjoyed the "FAMILY" you created (the
cookie lady-bob in zeil and many many more). I wish you the very best
and hope that we might find you on another station here in Pgh.
I'm not going to trash talk the other KDKA Talk Shows. I will just say
they do not meet my listening standards. I wish you and your family the
very best. I will keep you in my prayers.
Sincerely Bob M.
I was very sad to hear you are no longer on KDKA. Will you be on another
station in the Pittsburgh area. I never call your show but I always
check the things you put on the web site. Will you have your own website
with all the wonderful things that you had on KDKA I wish you good luck
and hope to hear you on another station in Pittsburgh
Gary, I have been a "listener' not a "caller' since you first started
I
was shocked last night! What happened and why are you no longer there? I
remember emailing back and forth with you in the very beginning I think
I got brave and called 1 time lol. Please email me back I am at a loss
for words... Sincerely Denise
I am sad to see that KDKA has left you go. I was shocked when I tuned in
last night to hear it wasn't you.
At first I thought that perhaps you had become ill and took a day off.
Not the case. I guess hundreds have contacted you to inform you that you
will sadly be missed.
I looked forward to you every night and to hear all the "good friends"
made over the air. I never attended any of the get togethers as I don't
drive and have never called the show but I feel as though I knew
everyone like my next door neighbor.
I hope another local station picks you up for the same type of show.
God go with you and bless you and your family.
As always a good friend,
Shirley
I am one who never phoned in but tuned in every night. I will miss you
so very much. I couldn't sleep the rest of the night after Dr. Knowledge
announced that you will no longer work for KDKA. I wish you all the best
and am so sorry this happened. I hope that I will be able to follow your
career and that you will be happy. With much affection, Joanne
Hi Gary
I thought I would update you from my last Email. After sending you the
email I did call the office of KDKA and left a voice message. Among
other comments I asked them to beg you to come bac k. I also mentioned
that I will never never have KDKA on my radio or TV. I just went
through one day without them, and it was great.
I now have WJAS on and who is better than Jack Bogot. I believe he got
the same treatment some years ago, and they have never been able to
replace him. On my other radio I hear your pastor John Guest. You can't
beat that. I pray that God will guide you to where you will once again
be heard and appreciated. I was one of the silent listeners,
and in talking to others there are many of us out there, and they dearly
miss you. Hope to hear from you.
God Bless
Angeline
Gary, You are quite the man and truly to be admired. I listened last
night till 3 cause I wanted to see if any of the regulars would call.
The man from New York called and said he'd never listen to KDKA radio
again. One guy called and said you and he didn't always agree but
thought you were a wonderful host. The joker called and said how he'd
miss you. Even JT called and said he was devastated and hoped that he
wasn't the cause. Many called in with broken hearts. As for me, sorry,
but I will not be listening any more. Just isn't the same without you.
We all loved you .
Hoping for the best for you and please let us know where we can catch
you again when God opens the door for you and He will. We'll keep
trusting Him.
Love,
Ruth
Hi Gary:
I am a former listener to your show, and still listen to Dr. Knowledge.
KD should have a bit more class than drop kicking their talent. Local
radio is getting to be pathetic. I loved Doug Hoerth at 13.60 AM, now
also gone (demographically challenged). I am just 49, but feel that
people half my age are more important (though I've listened to KD since
Ed/ Wendy King, continuing to Jack Wheeler, Perry Marshall, Bob & you).
Dennis Miller probably won't attract 23 year olds either.
God Bless & good luck in future.... Scott
Gary,
Although I never called in to talk with you I listened almost every
night. I was shocked to hear that you were no longer with KDKA. You will
be missed. I enjoyed the network of people you built up. It was like a
family. I hope you can find another radio station in Pittsburgh. There
were so many people last night even from out of state that called in to
say
how much they missed you.
Take care and I hope to hear you soon!
Maureen
Dear Gary,
Even though I never called in I listened to you every night and felt
like I knew the regular callers personally. I was shocked to hear KDKA
left you go and the way it was done. We
got no explanation from them but I have my own thoughts about it. I love
the Lord, as you do and know He has something better for you. When He
closes one door He opens another one. Please don't become discouraged,
if you heard the program this morning you heard many people call in and
say how much you will be missed. You're in my prayers. God bless you and
your family.
Sincerely,
Lois
Dear Gary,
I listened to you on KDKA, and am disappointed that they left you go. I
will miss all the callers who became like a family. I have also e-mailed
KDKA Radio about this. Please advise if, when and where you are on the
radio again. I now have no reason to listen to KDKA. All the best to
you.
Lorraine
Hello Gary - You are already MISSED. Big time! I never phoned you, but
emailed a few times. I did still listen, but sleep, as I shared, got in
the way. I signed myself with Miss Information as I was a librarian and
did a tiny bit of research if ever I heard a caller ask something.
Anyway - to I.D. me.
I'm Very sorry for the way this was handled, Gary. I really am. I don't
care if that is how the "business" is run, it is not kind, humane and
certainly is just nasty. And just after your 3rd anniversary, tacky to
say the least.
I emailed Michael Young today. I wasn’t nasty, but I shared that you are
liked, ran a nice show, had an audience, which I presume translates to
ratings. And so what, now KD has to tidy up the bullpen to have some
syndicated shows end the day. Goofy. I'm sorry to bash your recent
employer and I'm sure if I and other listeners were on the inside to
understand the radio biz, it might make sense. But it doesn't.
I wish you well and that God will bless you with a new opportunity - and
Here, in Pittsburgh, Gary. We are all unique - but you have a special
gift to run such a show and gee you just had a great flow and yours is a
Family - I know they all are feeling this loss. Get a new job fast - we
need YOU and your style. Not being trite, but if you did not know, WPTT
let go Doug Hoerth in the 20s of Dec. '07. He was on from 3-6pm,
Mon.-Fri. I miss him as well - so maybe you could contact them. They are
in the Greentree area - a nice building, I was a guest on his show once.
Take care of yourself, Gary. You added to my life and my mom listened as
well. God keep you in His care, until we hear you next on the air!
(guess I was inspired for a tiny rhyme by the poem man on your show.)
All the Best Gary!!! One fan/listener -
Miss Janet
Gary,
You have created a union of great friends and In a way formed a family
for so many.
You show means so much to so many people. I never called your show but
got to know you and many of the callers. I can not believe without
notice to you or your listeners kdka pulls the plug on your show ?
They want to attract a younger audience? I am 44 years old and I know
you and many of your callers were in my age group and the ones that were
older brought many years of knowledge and wisdom to your show. Many of
your callers have no one else to turn to and relied on you and the
callers just like a friend or family.
Kdka dropped pirate baseball and now your show- I am done with them.
You are a great talent and more importantly a great person I would never
change your ways- Another Pittsburgh station will hire you soon I am
sure. It may not reach many of your callers distant callers like 50k
watts from kdka but you have such a great local following and you will
have no problems.
Thanks for your great show !
I am looking forward to tuning you in again very soon
Hi Gary!
What a HUGE mistake KDKA just made. I was a regular listener, but never
called in to the show. You were such a bright light to long nights for
many people. I would get so angry at myself when I fell asleep and
missed parts of the show. I have been a regular listener to KDKA for 60
years, but I am going to have to get an ipod now because I can't find
any other talk show that compares to the one you had. I will not listen
to any programming from KDKA any more. Please know that you are loved by
so many people. Something better is in your future because you are such
a decent and caring person .
You will be taken care of by the one that matters. Thank you and God
Bless.
Connie
Gary, I am so sorry to hear that you are not longer at KDKA. I truly
enjoyed your after midnight program, night after night since you began.
I never called, but felt in touch with your ideas and values and the
faithful who called. Wishing you the best in these unsettled times.
Keep the Faith.
Shirley
I'm so sorry that you are no longer with KDKA. I will really miss the
choices of music that you picked coming out of commercials. You had a
real talent for picking great music.
I am really getting tired of the changes KDKA keeps making. Like I
really want
